Doctor Scales
Along with temperature and blood pressure, a patient’s weight is a primary factor in the medical care and treatment prescribed by a doctor. It’s quite possible that weight scales in a physician’s office get more use and abuse than any other scales. That’s why doctor scales are designed to accommodate the high traffic they receive daily.
Doctor scales are available in many styles and can be digital or mechanical balance beam technology. They are also available with or without height rods. Readings can be obtained in either pounds or ounces or in kilograms.
One of the factors which make doctor scales more desirable to physicians and hospitals is that they are highly calibrated, making them much more precise and accurate than smaller analog or digital scales. Doctor scales also have a higher capacity, often able to provide weights up to 600 pounds. Naturally, any scale with that capability must be extremely sturdy and durable; therefore, most are built on a steel platform.
Newer doctor scales also provide an instant digital reading of a patient’s weight, which ensures even greater accuracy than the interpretation of balance beam scales. The digital display is delivered through battery or AC power and often has automatic on and off capability to save power.
The health field depends on the quality and durability of doctor scales to provide the most accurate weight readings for many years of practice. It’s definitely an investment worth its weight.
